PRODUCT CARE & GUIDELINES

Cleaning Tips:

Due to the naturally porous nature of glass: soap scum and mineral deposits will settle into the glass and cannot be completely removed.  Therefore, we recommend using a squeegee or drying the glass after each shower use.  In addition, we recommend a routine application of REPEL, a 2 in 1 technology glass & surface cleaner.  REPEL cleans surfaces to a streak-free shine and easily removes dirt, dust, fingerprints, soil and grime.  It simultaneously protects surfaces with an invisible nano-scale repellent finish that resists adhesion and build-up of water, soil and stains.

For cleaning glass & aluminum, we recommend ELIMINATE, a shower, tub and tile cleaner.  ELIMINATE has a unique biodegradable chemistry that effectively removes scale, calcium, hard water spots, soap scum and body oils without offensive odors or the need for aggressive scrubbing. ELIMINATE cleans glass, fiberglass, plexiglass, ceramic, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, chrome, porcelain and cultured marble surfaces.  The use of any harsh cleaners may allow the finish of the anodized aluminum to be exposed to corrosion.

You can find these products in our showroom or through various online retailers.

Warranty

Classic Shower Door Co., Inc. offers a one-year warranty on material & installation.  If an issue is noted within one year of installation, we will conduct an inspection/evaluation/review of the issue to determine warranty validation as improper care and cleaning may void the warranty.  As noted under "General Information", a 3/16" - 1/4" gap is considered allowable for 3/8" & 1/2" frameless shower glass.  Therefore, we cannot guarantee that frameless doors or exposed roller sliders will be completely watertight as there is no frame or threshold to eliminate water seepage.

Mirror Cleaning Tips

We highly recommend and stock Hi-Sheen, an industrial strength cleaner developed especially for the glass industry. The concentrated foam lifts dirt, grime and smudges with a minimum of spray. This foam cleaning product will not drip to the bottom and seep behind the mirror. This eliminates the concern for “black edges” due to the cleaning product.

Never use acid or alkali cleaners, heavy ammonia-based cleaners or abrasive cleaners on your mirrors. These types of products can attack the surface, edges and backing of the mirror.

ASTM Glass Guidelines

Classic Shower Door Co., Inc. has been providing quality product & service since 1985.  We strive to provide the best product possible while adhering to the ASTM C1036 & C1048 Standard Specifications.

Please review the most common specifications, feel free to reach out to us with any questions.

Tolerance Standards for glass product per ASTM

The tolerances and specifications are strongly considered as general guidelines for acceptability.  At times, due to viewing from a certain angle, lighting, sunlight, etc.., specific flaws may be exaggerated

- Blemishes per ASTM

Air bubbles larger than ¼” in diameter are not allowed in any part of the glass area.  Blemishes up to 1/32” are allowable unless there is an accumulation.  An accumulation is when there are more than ten blemishes located within an 8” diameter.

- Scratches per ASTM

Scratches not seen within 10 feet of distance are deemed acceptable.  Concentrated scratches are cause for rejection.

- Glass dimension tolerances per ASTM

GLASS THICKNESS           TOLERANCE

3/16"                                        +/- 1/16"

1/4"                                           +/- 1/16"

3/8"                                           +/- 3/32"

1/2"                                           +/- 3/16"

-Overall bow and warp allowance per ASTM:

                           3/16"    1/4"      3/8"       1/2"

height

61"-72"           1/2"       3/8"       1/4"        3/16"

73"-84"           5/8"       1/2"       5/16"     1/4"

85"-96"           3/4"       5/8"       3/8"        9/32"

97"-108"        7/8"       3/4"       1/2"        3/8"

109"-120"       1"          7/8"       5/8"        1/2"

-  Fabrication specifications per ASTM:

Tolerance for holes, notches, and cutouts is 1/16” for glass that is up to ½” thick.  Irregular patterns and unusual edge work deems consultation with the manufacturer.

Inner surfaces of notches and cutouts shall be smooth, seamed or ground, although polished is not specified.

Corner notches and edge notches shall have fillets, the radius of which shall be equal to or greater than the thickness of the glass

- General Information

 -  3/16” – ¼” gap is considered allowable for 3/8” & ½” frameless shower glass

 -  If we notch a tile/stone/Onyx overhang, we request a tolerance of approx.. 1/8” to allow the glass to fit into the notch and provide space for final adjustment.  The notch will not be polished/finished as glass and silicone will provide a proper finished appearance.

  -  In rare instances, tile may crack when drilled. In addition, tile may crack after glass is installed due to weight stress from the glass.  The most common reason for cracked tiles is due to poor quality tile installation or improper substrate preparation.

**exception: glass tiles are much more susceptible to cracks/breakage** Classic Shower Door Co., Inc. is not liable for replacement/repair costs of cracked tiles.

 -  Please advise of special circumstances we should avoid drilling, such as heated floor wires, unique plumbing line placement, duct work, etc.  Classic Shower Door Co., Inc. is not liable for damage to unidentified/undisclosed conditions.
